Wilsons Promontory – Oberon Bay Overnight Loop

Easy | Confidence Builder

This overnight hike is a stunning introduction to multi-day walking in one of Victoria’s most iconic landscapes.

Starting and finishing at Tidal River, this loop takes you through open bushland, along wide, well-formed trails, and onto the coastline - finishing each day with the sound of the ocean and expansive coastal views.

It’s an ideal first overnight hike: beautiful, achievable, and incredibly rewarding.

Day 1 – Telegraph Saddle to Oberon Bay

Approx. 7–8 km | Easy to moderate

We’ll meet at Tidal River around 11:00am, allowing time to arrive, pack check, and ease into the adventure.

From here, we’ll make our way toward Telegraph Saddle before continuing along a wide, clearly defined trail toward Oberon Bay. The walking is steady and achievable, with time to find a comfortable rhythm, take breaks, and enjoy the surroundings.

By mid to late afternoon, we’ll arrive at Oberon Bay campground, set up camp, and settle in for the evening. With the hard work done, there’s time to relax, wander down to the beach, and watch the sun drop into the ocean - one of the true highlights of this hike.

Day 2 – Oberon Bay to Tidal River (Coastal Return)

After breakfast and packing up camp, we’ll return to Tidal River via the coastal route.

Day two offers relaxed walking across a mix of beach and well-formed coastal trail, with wide-open views and easy navigation. The terrain is varied but straightforward, making it a calm, confidence-building finish to the hike.

We’ll aim to arrive back at Tidal River around midday, giving you time to enjoy a swim, lunch, or a slow drive home.
