Mt Stirling

The Mount Stirling adventure offers a true Victorian high-country experience without committing to huge kilometres. This overnight hike takes us through alpine forests, open ridgelines, and historic hut country, with time to slow down and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the mountains.

For those wanting a little more adventure, an optional out-and-back walk to Craig’s Hut can be added on. Craig's Hut is an iconic destination in the Victorian High Country; a replica of the hut used in the film The Man from Snowy River.

Day 1 – Forest Climb & Summit

Approx. 7km | Moderate

Day one begins with a steady climb through forested alpine tracks, gradually gaining elevation as we make our way toward the upper reaches of Mount Stirling.

The walking is consistent rather than technical, requiring patience, pacing, and the ability to keep moving for several hours. As we climb higher, the landscape begins to open up, offering views across the surrounding ranges and a sense of being truly immersed in the alpine environment.

By mid to late afternoon, we’ll set up camp nearby, either on the summit, or a nearby hut and settle in for the evening - a well-earned rest after a solid day on the track.

Depending on the weather we may do an optional out and back to Craig's Hut (8.5kms) on day one or keep it up our sleeves for day two.

Day 2 – Descent

Approx. 7 -13km | Moderate

After breakfast and packing up camp, we’ll continue our adventure.

Participants can choose to complete the standard return route or extend the day with an optional out-and-back walk to Craig’s Hut - one of Victoria’s most iconic alpine huts and a well-known filming location from The Man from Snowy River.

The additional distance adds a little more challenge while rewarding the effort with incredible views and a classic high-country experience.

We’ll aim to complete the hike by mid-afternoon.
