Wilsons Promontory - Roaring Meg

A coastal overnight adventure with wild beauty and just the right challenge

If you’ve been craving ocean views, remote trails, and a true overnight hiking experience - this one is for you. You will carry everything on your back, walk along wild coastline, and end your day camping beside a river under the stars.

Day 1 – Coastal Walking

Approx. 18 km | Moderate to challenging

We start the day at Tidal River and follow the coastal trail toward Oberon Bay with sweeping ocean views, sections of beach walking and even a river crossing along the way.

We then turn inland, stopping at Halfway Hut before a break and then climbing over Mt Martin through incredible bushland. Eventually we descend to Roaring Meg, where we set up camp beside the river.

If the group is feeling good, there is an option to do a short out and back to the southernmost tip of mainland Australia and wave at our friends in Tasmania.

Day 2 – Climb Out & Circuit Completion

Approx. 10–12 km | Moderate

Day two begins with packing up camp before climbing back up Mt Martin and enjoying the descent to Halfway Hut for a short break.

Then it's a shorter, but steeper climb up to Telegraph carpark where our hike ends. Unless you still have energy to burn and you want to climb Mt Oberon to finish with an optional out and back 6.8km with stunning panoramic 360-degree views at the summit.

A beautiful day to finish up a great adventure!
